5 Tips for Getting Back in Shape in The New Year

5 Tips for Getting Back in Shape in The New Year

December 10, 2019 By Emily Joswiak Leave a Comment

Getting back in shape tends to be the most popular New Year’s resolution for people around the world. It’s a wonderful resolution, but it can be harder to follow through on as you get older. Follow these tips for getting back in shape in the New Year.

Set Goals

Before you get back to working out, try to have some goals for yourself. This can be as simple as working out a certain amount of days a week or gradually lifting more. You can also set more specific goals, such as losing weight or building muscle. Set a goal that will better your life and health.

Establish a Routine

An important thing you will want to do as soon as you commit to getting fit is to establish a routine. This means aiming to work out a certain amount of days in a week at a certain time. For instance, many people like to work out in the morning, while others can’t until after their nine-to-five job. Another part of a fitness routine is designating a day for a different type of workout, such as cardio, chest, legs, biceps, etc. Find what works best for you and stick to it three to six days a week.

Drink More Water

When you get back into an exercise routine, there is a good chance you will be sore after your workouts, because the muscles aren’t used to that work. However, staying hydrated by drinking water throughout the day will help with your recovery.

Prepare Meals

If you do have a goal in mind, then you will want to make a lifestyle change outside of the gym, too. This will require some type of dietary change. The best way to go about a diet is to prepare meals for the week so you aren’t tempted to “wing it” at any point.

Workout at Home

One of the hardest aspects of working out is not only finding the right time, but also finding the right place—especially when you are a parent. That’s why one of our tips for getting back in shape for the new year is to workout at home. It’s important to invest in yourself and your body, and there’s plenty of exercising equipment you can use to achieve this. Working out at home also makes matters as convenient as possible, just be sure that you are safe while doing so.
