House Renovations that Should Be Done While Your Child is Small

House Renovations that Should Be Done While Your Child is Small

December 4, 2019 By Ron Wolf Leave a Comment

Preparing for the birth of the first child is something that every parent remembers. However, renovating the house and adjusting it to the needs of the youngest members of the family doesn’t stop after a child is born. Even when the kids are small you have the possibility to make alterations to the house so they have a safe environment to play in. These renovations are sometimes minor in character but they are a few major projects that require a lot of none and attention so you better be ready for them.

The house as a canvas

How many times have you had to scold your kid because they became overenthusiastic with crayons and “decorated” the walls in the living room? If your answer is “a lot,” then you should consider creating vertical space children can freely draw on. This will save hundreds of dollars in costly paint jobs and your children will get a chance to express their creative side. In most cases, a blackboard hung from the walk will be enough to satisfy their desire to turn into a little Picasso.

Another solution to this issue is buddying up with your kids and painting together. Whichever DIY home improvement project you embark on, there is bound to be painting involved. In fact, many of these painting jobs require elaborate patterns to be drawn and your children are the ideal artists to hire for this task. Just give them as brush and a can of paint and watch them decorate the garden bench or the shed’s walls.

Getting a gardening assistant

Speaking of outdoor chores, there is none more rewarding than gardening. If you’re already a green thumb, then do your best to interest the kids as well in this hobby. Teach them how to plant vegetables, flowers, and spices and then watch them grow together. They will learn a valuable lesson in taking care of other living beings. If you decide to make flowerbeds, the children can carry the timber around while you nail the box.

Building a playhouse

The best home improvement for the bedroom or the nursery is a playhouse. Although it seems easier to simply buy one at the nearest shopping mall, building a playhouse with the help of your kid will prove to be a memorable experience. You can find the blueprints online and pick up everything you need at a hardware store. Once you master the design, the building part will come easy. In fact, your kid will get a chance to use the hammer or the screwdriver, under your watchful eyes, of course. This will help them develop hand-eye coordination before they enter the playhouse and the land of imagination.

Enjoying a bath … at all times

If there is one thing certain about having small children, then that’s the fact they will sol their clothes. In fact, if you let them outside for an hour, they will probably find a way to fall right into a puddle of mud, even if it’s a sunny day outside. The need for a quick bath is ever-present in any house with children inside.

It might not be the most obvious home improvement but making sure there is always hot water for a bath ort a shower will make your life whole lot easier. Call hot water service experts to inspect your plumbing and confirm that there are no leaks or problems with water pressure. In the long, this action will help prolong the lifespan of your in-house plumbing.

Designing the mailbox together

The one part of your household that you probably didn’t prepare before the child was born was the mailbox and probably the whole driveway. Since it’s probably weather-beaten by now, it’s time to take down the mailbox, repair it and repaint it. It is ideal for your kids to practice nailing and painting because nothing bad can come out from making a mistake on the mailbox. If you don’t have a mailbox at all, then you can build one. It is fairly easy to construct a mailbox, as all you need is plywood and a few nails. The children will be in charge of the painting, of course.

Smooth and round

As the child starts to grow in height, he/she is going to start bumping into staff and more dangerously, into edges of the tables inside the house. We presume that you have purchased round and oval tables and desks but the old ones might need some improvements in terms of functionality and design. Yes, we are referring to trimming edges and making them round. If you get the right power tools then these adjustments will be a walk in the park. However, there are going to be a lot of fine dust particles in the air so this is one DIY job that the children should be kept away from.

Safety latches in the kitchen

Home safety is really the first priority when it comes to children; the amenities come later. One of the most dangerous rooms for them to stay in is the kitchen. A stove that is red-hot, all the sharp knives, and slippery floors are all reasons for concern. In reality, the most real danger that lurks in the kitchen is the easily accessible cupboards.

They hold various dangerous liquids like cleaning solutions and bleach which are highly toxic for adults, let alone children. That’s why the cupboard should be equipped with latches that are childproof. Only after you install safety latched can you be sure that the kid won’t be up to any shenanigans after you leave the house.

The time that your child is still small is one of the best periods of parenthood. However, it is also the time when children are most prone to injury inside the house. That’s why the home improvement you build when the kids are small ae mostly going to be directed at safety. Of course, there will be those that will be fun to build and even your kid can join in on the build.
