Landscaping Tips for New Homeowners

Landscaping Tips for New Homeowners

February 1, 2021 By Emily Joswiak Leave a Comment

As a new homeowner, it’s likely you’re feeling overwhelmed with where to start on home improvement projects. It can be tempting to put off the outside since we spend so much time living indoors. The thing is, nothing will feel better than pulling into the driveway at the end of the day and absolutely loving the view of your own landscaped yard. Check out these landscaping tips for new homeowners to give you some ideas of how you can improve your new yard.

Breathe Some Life Into Your Yard

Give your new yard new life by getting rid of dead plants. Pull out shrubs and flowers that are obviously not going to bloom again. If you have trees that look like they may crumble if the wind should pick up, hire a professional to remove them so it is done properly.

You may need to plan on what will replace any dead landscaping if necessary.

Patch up the Lawn

In the spring and summer, check your lawn for brown or bare spots. You may need to add grass seed or fertilizer to fix those areas. Also, check for crabgrass and weeds to see if weed killer is necessary.

Taking care of it from the beginning will ensure years of enjoyment from your lawn.

Make a Plan

Once you remove any dead plants and care for the lawn, your yard now has a blank canvas for landscaping. Sketch out a plan to give you a clear idea of what you want and to help you control spending.

Plan for some color and variation throughout the different seasons, depending on your climate. As you plan your landscaping, keep in mind how much you enjoy taking care of the yard. If you don’t truly enjoy it, then keep landscaping simple. If your dream is to be outside every day working on the yard, then, by all means, fill your yard with an array of shrubs, trees, and flowers!

Do Your Research

The last thing you want is to invest in beautiful landscaping only to find out you have chosen shrubs and flowers that do not like water, and you keep over-watering them. Or perhaps they prefer the shade and you planted them in full sun.

Choose a knowledgeable business with employees willing to answer all of your questions when purchasing your landscaping materials.

Using these landscaping tips for new homeowners, such as those from Sanford tree experts, will get you on the right track toward a beautiful yard and a happy home.
