I think that dads can be classified in two ways…when it comes to hygiene.
We are either simplistic or marginally complicated in our approach. I use the qualifier “marginally” because next to women, we really have no way of reaching true complexity.
In essence, we are either bar soap guys or body wash guys.
We either lather up the old-fashioned way or we rock the loofa (in the manliest color possible).
Now, as a site that sticks to more content-based pieces rather than product-based ones, you might wonder why male hygiene is being discussed.
To that I would say…because it’s something that dads think about but rarely ever talk about.
These are products that we need but not products that we care to discuss. Do you remember the last time that you had a buddy say, “Hey, what kind of soap do you use?”
That has never been a topic of conversation for me, and I hope you haven’t had to endure it either.
But, every now and then a product is offered to Fatherhood Factor that is both useful and worth mentioning.
Manly Clean from the Irish
We received a request from a representative of Colgate to sample Irish Spring’s new body wash called “Clear & Fresh Skin.”
Being kind of a “bar soap purist” in my approach to hygiene, I wasn’t that interested in changing…but what’s the harm in trying something new?
My criteria was this:
- When I got out of the shower I wanted to feel clean. No sliminess or greasiness…but I also didn’t want to feel like I just washed with a livestock salt-lick .
- I wanted a mild smell that didn’t leave me being confused with a lilac bush.
- And…I wanted a soap that actually stayed “soapy”. If I wanted to wash with a dry brillo pad then I wouldn’t need body wash.
Like I said, I’m pretty simplistic in my approach.
So, what’s my assessment? Based on my criteria I was pleasantly surprised.
I didn’t feel too slimy or too dry, which I suppose was due to the claim that the product helps protect against breakout’s…for those that struggle with them.
I had a faint manly smell and I only had to apply body wash once, so the bottle has lasted quite a while.
Simply speaking, it’s worth you becoming moderately more complex.
Any Suggestions?
Knowing that you guys won’t speak about this in normal conversation…do you have any suggestions for our readers?
Have you tried this product, or any other product that’s worth mentioning?
Trust me, the male population needs the recommendations.
